What It’s Like

The Buffy Bus is aimed at toddlers rather than young babies. It works best once children are confidently walking and keen to explore, and it attracts a mix of parents, grandparents and childminders.

Downstairs usually focuses on messy play or crafts — often painting, sand play or simple creative activities. Upstairs is a contained soft play area with a ball pit, ride-ons, dressing-up, books and toys, plus seating where adults can sit and chat while keeping an eye on children.

What makes it work is the contained environment combined with the relaxed feel. Because it’s free and booking isn’t required, it’s easy to try — though sessions can feel busy during peak weeks.

Walden Weekly Tip

If you're new, arrive a few minutes early — it’s relaxed, but once the bus fills up it naturally feels busier. And there’s no need to panic if the bus hasn’t arrived exactly on time; it’s travelling between villages and occasionally navigating traffic. They’re very good at updating their social pages if there are delays or if they can’t make a particular stop.

More Detail...

🚌 Buffy Bus – What to Expect

Buffy Bus is a secure, fully enclosed double-decker play bus designed for children roughly walking age and up. While it’s not ideal for tiny babies, mums, dads, grandparents and carers are all very welcome — it’s just as much a friendly place for adults to chat as it is for little ones to play.

The bus is fully secured with baby gates and locked doors, so children can explore safely inside.

🎨 Downstairs

The lower deck focuses on creative, hands-on play:

  • Painting station

  • Sand pit

  • A rotating craft activity (for example, making baubles or decorating pine cones — this alternates weekly)

It’s sensory, a little bit messy, and perfect for curious toddlers.

🧸 Upstairs

Upstairs is where most of the free play happens:

  • Soft play ball pit

  • Mini two-level soft play section at the far end

  • Ride-on toys

  • Dress-up area

  • Play kitchen

  • Digital game wall

  • Book nook

  • Seating area for parents and carers

It’s lively and best suited to confident crawlers and walkers building independence and imaginative play skills.

🍎 Snacks & Facilities
  • A small fruit & veg snack is usually provided

  • Toilet and baby changing facilities are available on the bus

⚠️ Things to Know
  • Best for children who are mobile

  • No space for buggies on the bus — these are left outside (bring a rain cover just in case)

  • Sessions can get busy, so arriving a little early helps

  • The bus travels between locations, so occasionally traffic can cause delays. They’re very good at updating their social pages if they’re running late — worth checking before you set off.
